Technical Difficulties was Paul Gilbert and Racer X's triumphant reunion CD, giving them a
chance to play some unapologetic Heavy Metal in the trendy 90's. The band drew inspiration
from the era of early Van Halen, Rush, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne(with Randy Rhoads),
AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Pat Travers, Loudness, Accept, and Saxon, without messing it up with any alternative/grunge/rap influences. Gilbert explains, "We had a great time reuniting, both as
great friends, and as musicians. The early Racer X records were miracles of speedy
production, so it was nice to be able to take some more time in the studio on this one. We
recorded and mixed it the record in five weeks, which is still quick. But not compared to 10
days like 'Street Lethal'!" The CD features the instrumentals "Phallic Tractor", "B.R.O."

Frank Gambale - Natural High (2006)

Frank Gambale unplugs for Natural High, pulling out his acoustic guitar for a nine track
instrumental CD recoded with pianist Otmaro Ruiz (who has been a member of John McLaughlin’s Heart of Things touring band and the Robben Ford/Jimmy Haslip/Vinnie Colaiuta collaborative Jing Chi) and bassist Alain Caron (a founding member of the '80s Canadian fusion group UZEB). No drumming per se, but percussionist Mike Shapiro adds his beats to four cuts. The result is a mainstream jazz record that will appeal to fusion fans since they'll find it
with no less energy than a typical Gambale release. Even on acoustic guitars, Gamable
delivers the speed and dexterity he has been known for since his first recordings. As
reviewer John Kelman notes, "In many ways Natural High is the Gambale album that his fusion
fan base needs to hear - demonstrating the firm but sometimes forgotten link between

CHRIS POLAND: "Return To Metalopolis" (2002)

Les presento a Chris Poland,un excelente guitarrista que actualmente está en un estilo más Sui generis , tirado más al jazz y al progresivo, pero que en sus inicios fue bastante metalero, ya que fue el primer guitarrista de la excelente banda de Thrash metal MEGADETH, incluso participó en su última porducción del 2006 "The System Has Failed", pero dejó a la banda para seguir con lo suyo.

Por todo esto es que quería entregarles el primer disco de Chris, bastante más apegado al estilo metal, furioso y agresivo,pero con bastante talento también. Al que guste de un guitarreo más poderoso,aquí les queda de perillas el primer disco de Poland.

JOHN NORUM:" TOTAL CONTROL" (1987)

La verdad es que este blog ha presentado hasta el momento muy pocos guitarristas con vocalistas y no quisiera romper el esquema, pero no puedo dejar de entregarles un trabajo realmente excelente y de mucho talento.

Me refiero al primer disco solista (ya un clásico en el medio rockero) de John Norum, primer guitarrista de los suecos EUROPE (Como sabrán, ha vuelto a unirse a los Europe he hicieron un honesto disco). Este disco es bastante ligado al hard rock, en épocas en que golpeaba fuerte Yngwie Malmsteen, Satriani y otros, aparece Norum con este excelente trabajo, no tanto por su técnica (sin tanta pirotecnia como los ilustres antes mencionados) sino por sus muy buenos temas en la línea hard heavy rock. Buenos temas, grandes riffs y melodías. Para los que gustan este estilo, este disco debería formar parte de su disco duro. Este disco esta dedicado a Roberto O., para que lo aplique a sus tecnicas.

ALLAN HOLDSWORTH: "Velvet Darkness" (1976)

A pedido de alguien por ahí,les dejo un disco de Alan Holdsworth, pero este eso sí es una joyita que no se le conoció en el mercado, se grabó y todo, pero hasta ahí no más llegó.

Su estilo jazz rock queda de manifiesto, un poco crudo por su falta de edición, pero muy interesante, claro está (si es Holdsworth,pues!!).

The Blackberry Jams is a collection of private recordings and previously unreleased demos from Jason Becker's "Perpetual Burn" era that gives guitar fans insight into his private musical thoughts from the period. In the words of Jason Becker himself, "These recordings were done between 1987 and 1988 and were recorded onto a Tascam four-track. They are very raw and rough because I never intended for anyone to hear them except for Mike Varney and Marty Friedman. The Blackberry Jams includes different variations of parts from familiar songs, demos I did that became parts of songs that Marty Friedman and I wrote together.

Planet Gemini is the incredible follow-up to Michael Angelo's "No Boundaries" CD. This second disc released in 1997 has a very progressive, hard edged sound from beginning to end. The title track starts with a memorable pentatonic melody and then breaks into one of the fastest, cleanest blues riffs ever played. He also displays his great acoustic guitar playing on this track as well as in some other songs on the CD. One of the best reasons to get Planet Gemini is the last song "Time Traveler". There is a lead solo section that is so outside and fast that it is incomprehensible that a human could even play it! His guitar tone, like "No Boundaries", is thick and smooth making the fast parts very audible and immaculate. There are many 'mixed meters' on this CD and the songs start and stop "on a dime" with tight arrangements and very clean production. Michael also does a remake of the song "The Jam Game" adding drummer Chuck White and keyboardist Frank Lucas to give this a flavor all of it's own.
